Facebook has become a way of life, and it’s become an inexpensive and great way of promoting yourself and business. Even though social networking may seem complex, once you get the hang of it, you can make an update or post a picture in a few short minutes.

First, it’s important to recognize there is a difference between a Facebook “Profile” and a “Page“. They are not the same thing. “Profiles” are for people, whereas “Pages” are for companies. With profiles a user must request to be a friend, before they see your posts in their feed. With pages, uses simply “like” a page, then they can see and share your posts.

If you are using Facebook to promote your artwork you want a “Page” to promote your work. If you think of yourself as a business, you will gain a larger audience and can promote your art to the general population, instead of just limited to your friends and family.

With having a page, other businesses/artists can like your page and help cross-promote you. You may gain fans across the country that wouldn’t normally have seen your work, just by a post being re-shared.

If you just have a Profile, River Art Gallery cannot share any of your posts, nor can we “friend” you. If you have a Page, then we can like your page, share and like your posts, and help cross-promote you. Even though River Art Gallery and Gifts promotes our artists as much as we can, if you want to be more successful you must think of yourself as a business and promote yourself.

Steps to create a Page:

  1. Create a personal Profile, if you are not a member of Facebook yet.
  2. Create a Page: Use drop down menu “Create a Page” or go to https://www.facebook.com/pages/create, then choose “Artist, Band, or Public Figure”

When you create a page, Facebook will guide you through all the necessary steps, such as creating content and posting images.
