Description

Garcia’s Irish Pub (now the Pearl Street Brewery in Buffalo, NY) was my first venture into the world of pristine watercolor. I am proud to say that the late Dr. V.R. Lalli, famous for his “Buffalo My City Series Watercolor Series” became my mentor and close friend through the process of this painting.

Dr. Lalli had a goal to paint a famous landmark from each of Buffalo’s forty two square miles. I needed a theme to motivate me in a direction. At the time, I decided to capture the allure of Western New York Pubs. Thus, I dubbed myself as “the Pubpainter”.

I had heard Garcia’s was to be closing soon, so I set out to pay it homage. It was the perfect subject with its warm bricks and charismatic front entrance. As a relative rookie to composition at this point, my perspective might have been a bit close. However, I will always remember this painting as where I started and it will always have a special place for me.
