Coles, Buffalo, NY (1999)
Pretty much anyone who attended college in and around Buffalo remembers meeting a few friends at this establishment along the way. The second painting in my series was Coles’ on Elmwood Avenue.
I was looking for new challenges with this project. Dr. Lalli helped me compose the scene properly this time. I even included him in the scene with my wife Lynn. This time, there was the complexity of trees to deal with. I even threw in my car, a nice shiny 1998 Honda Civic. “Doc”, as I called him, was notorious for capturing the times by including vehicles in his paintings. I figured I would give it a try!
This painting was the turning point of my series. With the proper coaching from the start, I noticed my abilities beginning to improve.
