The Youngstown Yacht Club, Youngstown, NY, (2008)
Not really a pub you might say, well they do have a bar! I took a new direction painting the Youngstown Yacht Club. I was looking for a nautical subject with a thirst to paint some water and a boat or two.
Dr. Lalli had already painted the Buffalo Yacht Club. I was going to paint that perhaps from a different angle. However, I should have known, Doc already captured the best angle and I couldn’t paint it nearly as well as he did anyway.
On the advice of Doc’s framer John Klepfer, I checked out Youngstown. I took over 100 pictures at various angles, some actually from a yacht in the river perspective. Turns out, my first picture was my best view! Could have saved some time there but never hurts to know your subject I guess.
